თბილისის ზოოპარკი თავის დროზე კომუნისტების მიერ ეკლესია-მონასტრების გადამდნარი ზარების ხარჯზე დაარსდა და ის იმ ადგილას, სადაც არის ვერ გაიხარებს, - ამის შესახებ საქართველოს კათოლიკოს-პატრიარქმა, უწმინდესმა და უნეტარესმა ილია მეორემ დღეს, საკვირაო ქადაგებისას განაცხადა. პატრიარქის თქმით, ზოოპარკი სხვა ადგილას უნდა იყოს გადატანილი. წუხელ ღამით თბილისში დატრიალებულ ტრაგედიას ილია მეორე საკვირაო ქადაგებისას გამოეხმაურა, სადაც მან ზოოპარკის დაარსების ისტორიაზე ისაუბრა."მოხდა საშინელი ტრაგედია საქართველოში. ღვარცოფის, ნიაღვრის და წვიმის შედეგად დაიღუპა ხალხი. განადგურდა ზოოპარკი. ცხოველები თავისი ადგილებიდან გადმოვიდნენ და ადამიანებისთვის საშიში გახდნენ. თქვენ ალბათ არც გახსოვთ, რომ რამდენიმე წლის წინ იყო მცირე ინფორმაცია ზოოპარკის შესახებ. როცა კომუნისტები საქართველოში შემოვიდნენ და ქრისტიანების და სამღვდელოების დევნა, ასევე ეკლესია-მონასტრების ნგრევა დაიწყებს, დაიწერა ბრძანება, რომ მონასტრებიდან და ტაძრებიდან ჩამოეყარათ ზარები, გადაედნოთ და ამ ფულით, რასაც მოიპოვებდნენ, ზოოპარკი დაარსებულიყო. ასე რომ, ზოოპარკი დაარსდა ტაძრებისა და მონასტრების ზარების ფასად, ამიტომ ეს ზოოპარკი ვერ გაიხარებს. ზოოპარკი უნდა გაუქმდეს და სხვაგან ახალი ზოოპარკი დაარსდეს, რადგან ეს ზოოპარკი ცოდვაზეა დაარსებული. ბევრს ეს არ ახსოვს და ინფორმაცია ამის შესახებ ჩვენს პრესაში არსებობდა. ცოდვა დაუსჯელი არ რჩება. ვწუხვართ, რომ ქართველი ადამიანი იმდენად დაეცა, რომ საეკლესიო ზარების ხარჯზე და მათ განადგურებაზე ზოოპარკი დააარსეს. აი, ამის შედეგი. დაიღუპნენ ადამიანები და განადგურდნენ ცხოველები", - ბრძანა ილია მეორემ საკვირაო ქადაგებისას.საკვირაო წირვა-ლოცვის დასრულების შემდეგ უწმინდესი სამებიდან სტიქიის ადგილას გაემართა. როგორც მან განაცხადა, შესრულდება პარაკლისი გარდაცვლილი ადამიანებისთვის და მათ სახელზე დაინთება სანთლები.
